What To Do Before A Date?

What To Do Before A Date?

Here’s a scene for you – it’s just before a big date or night out, maybe something you’ve been planning for some time, maybe with a special someone who you’ve had your eye on for a while. So why do we often find ourselves thinking… “why am I doing this again?”

And no, I’m not talking about taking that brave step back into the dating game, I’m talking about pre-date habits and routines that we find ourselves getting into – what to do before a date? Maybe these things are helpful to increase our confidence before that big moment, or maybe we’re just doing them on autopilot! Whatever the reason, these are often things we do before a date, maybe you could add a few items to the list as well.

Wash, And Spray On Perfume or Cologne

I hope I don’t need to mention this one… but then I’m surprised at the number of people who miss this step out! If you’re going out with someone for the first time, or even one of the early dates, you definitely don’t want to be caught polluting the surrounding air! I think everyone would be forgiven for lowering their opinion of you for neglecting personal hygiene.

A few hours before the date, have a shower to clean yourself up to really show your date your best side. Also, spraying on a fragrance one or two hours before the actual date is another great tip – this means that you won’t be overpowering your date with an excessively strong smell, as instead it’s been given some time to relax and blend in with your bodies natural chemistry.

Shaving

When thinking of what to do before a date, another thing to keep in check is facial or body hair. Obviously everyone has different levels of what they like (or can put up with :P) but for the first dates, it’s best to play it safe so you stand a better chance of having a second date!

For the guys, knowing what type of facial hair suits you best (and if you’re not sure, it’s often best to go with a shaved look) and trimming your hair to show that you are are a well groomed male who knows how to take care of himself is always a real plus in your dates mind. For the girls, knowing that you’ve got clean shaven legs will help give your self-confidence a boost that will really show when you’re out on the date – even if you believe it will be there, I’m sure the man will notice 🙂

You Remembered The Mints, Right?

Planning a first kiss? Making sure you’ve got mints or even gum to freshen your breath is another one of those things you’ve got to tick off the list. Maybe you loved the taste of that chilli you had for dinner… but that doesn’t mean that your date will appreciate it as much! Keep a mint on hand so you never have a close call, or even ruin the night with a bad kiss to finish it that will definitely stay in your dates memory.

Clean Your Home – Especially The Bathroom And Bedroom

If it’s a dinner date in your home, or you think at some point you’ll end up there anyway, you should definitely give your home a quick going over. When deciding what to do before a date, and looking through your wardrobe for an outfit, look at your place through the eyes of someone seeing it for the first time and ask yourself “if I came in and saw that… what would I think about this person?”

Have you got anything lying around that would give the wrong impression – food wrappers, dirty clothes, old magazines piled up? If you have, you need to take some time to clean the whole place. Note: Pay special attention to the bedroom and the bathroom – these two places alone can reveal a lot about a person, and you want your date to have a positive, lasting impression after coming round.

Workout – My Personal Favourite!

If you’re not a huge fitness fanatic, and want to appear that way for a date – I’m sorry to be the one to break this to you, but developing your ideal body is something that takes time and work, and isn’t something that you can do in a quick fix.

However, a quick workout of the right type before a date can really freshen you up, waken your sense of humour and make you more fun to be around! And for guys, if you do some light (you definitely don’t want to appear knackered for the date :P) weightlifting beforehand can sometimes bring your muscles up for a few hours and make you look more impressive – a good tip to keep in mind.

Oh, but remember to go back to the first point after your workout and remember to have a shower, ‘excessively sweaty’ isn’t a good look for a date, as I’m sure you’d soon discover!
